Difficulty with AJP Connector Service Unavailable

Greetings. I’ve been at this a few days now and have decided it’s time to ask for help. I installed Lucee and Xampp on a Windows Surface Go x64 tablet and did the mod cfm changes and all the usual configuration changes I thought needed to be done. I can start Apache and Lucee just fine but I am getting an AJP error, specifically, when I attempt to connect to a cfm application I get “Service Unavailable” and in the Apache error logs. The mod-cfml proxy lines are uncommented and modcfml.so is in the modules directory in apache2.

I have several other machines running Lucee and Xampp so I’ve gone over their working configurations with a fine toothed comb but I still see nothing different that could be causing this issue.

In the Surface GO I tried completely disabling any firewalls and malware protection with the same results.

I’ve also made sure that nothing else is running using the ports needed. Skype, for example, has been disabled in Services. I just don’t know of anything else to check so I am here asking for further assistance. Thanks

you do not apache to run Lucee, infact do not if you are just developing on your local machine.

Open up localhost:8888, you should see your website

if you absolutely must use both, then in httpd conf file place this at the bottom

you must additionally make sure the proxy modules are enabled.

if you search in your server.xml, you’ll see no where is there a configured port of 8009 aside from the comment, Apache is telling you that by saying actively refused, nobody was listening!

You just need a bit more config for the connector, here is the config the Lucee installer uses

I had a similar problem setting up Lucee ocker with Tomcat 11, I forgot the config to actually deploy Lucee, so the docker builds hung for 6 hours because there was no Lucee to exit due to WARMUP being specified!!!

Tomcat just started and sat there doing nothing

Before I make these changes may I ask…

I have two other machines currently running Apache and Lucee successfully although both are older versions than the one I am having troubles with.

Neither of those machines has the the proxy settings exactly as you show. Instead both my other working configurations for httpd.conf have these proxy settings only.

So I’ve had a breakthrough…of sorts

I found that in the configuration of the AJP port, I had to explicitly include “secretRequired="false” in the port declaration

This did not work

But this does work

The only remaining issue now is that while CFM pages will now serve, images on the pages will not.

Images shouldn’t be proxied through to Lucee via AJP. You should be able to hit those directly from your Apache httpd server. https://localhost/images/image.jpg (or whatever you are serving) should come up, regardless if AJP or Tomcat/Lucee is running. If they aren’t, then check the httpd server mappings to make sure they are pointing to the same location as Lucee, and that the file permissions allow httpd to read those files.

I’m not sure if it was just a matter of waiting or restarting everything but just after I posted that last post the images started to serve properly.
