Difference between echo() and writeOutput()

Hi there,
What is the difference between echo() and writeoutput()?

no difference other than encodeFor argument

I did read the documentation
and saw;

Writes the given string to the main response buffer regardless of conditions established by the cfsetting tag. see also function writeOutput.

which also has the text;

but TBH I didn’t actually understand what it was talking about - and since the text was the same - I gathered it was the same end-result, anyway - but just wanted to be sure.
