Just wondering if anybody is using the cborm coldbox module?
I’m on cborm-4.12.1+10, coldbox-7.5.2+27, Lucee 7.1.0.204, and Hibernate ORM Engine Extension (Lucee) 5.6.15.19-SNAPSHOT for production. It’s quite stable.
Interesting we are still on cborm 4, Lucee 6 with Ortus Orm Lucee 6.5 stable as well
Just wondering how will deal with the newest development, cborm 6 will drop support for ACF and Lucee mostly because of compat issues (using Hibernate 7.4 and will go to Hibernate 8 when released)
yep cborm 5+ and coldbox 8+ are made for boxlang only. I’m looking at QUICK, another Coldbox module and it has some nice features over cborm which seems more practical for me for the time being, although I’m totally unaware of the benefits Hibernate 7 or 8 might bring.
Used quick only with one larger project and didn’t like it. Performance is not good with larger objects. Has issues with other databases than mysql… newest bx orm seems to have better error reporting… I guess we will move to boxlang with cfcompat, just worried about short term implications
Hi Gunnar, we (the Lucee team) don’t maintain ColdBox modules ourselves, but I’ve had a look at the cborm code, and it’s not that complicated.
cborm 5.x is still plain CFML. Lucee support was only removed in 5.0.0, and that was a small change (a Lucee ORM util and a branch in the util factory). cborm 6 is the real break: it’s rewritten in BoxLang and builds on BoxLang’s ORM module (Hibernate 7).
My suggestion would be to clone cborm 5.x and add back the Lucee support. Then port over just the 6.x features you actually need, like the new service methods (firstOrCreate, updateWhere, getReference …) or composite ids. Most of those are plain service-layer code and work fine on Lucee’s Hibernate extension.
cborm is Apache 2.0 licensed, so you’re free to clone, modify and use it, also commercially. Just keep the license and notice files, and if you publish your fork, give it a different name/slug so it doesn’t clash with the original on ForgeBox.
If you run into anything on the Lucee/Hibernate side, let us know here or in Jira.
