6.1.0.243 - startup error: "annotations" / "Invalid byte tag in constant pool: 19"

Hey guys, I’ve been using a Lucee 5.x Express setup for a long time. I downloaded the new 6.1.0.243 Express and copied over my “jre” subdirectory from my existing Lucee 5 Express directory into the Lucee 6 Express directory. On startup of Lucee 6 I get this error:

I Googled it, and it’s caused by Tomcat 8 not being able to handle a certain kind of class, but Tomcat 9 can handle it fine.

WTF, I thought? My old Lucee 5 Express came with Tomcat 9, but I checked and the brand-new Lucee 6 Express I just downloaded comes with Tomcat 8!

This doesn’t make any sense. Why did it go backwards from Tomcat 9 to 8?

Lucee Server 6 still starts fine and seems to run fine, but with this big nasty error during startup. Can anyone explain?

Thanks.

OS: Linux
Java Version: 11
Tomcat Version: 8 (was 9 on Lucee 5 Express!)
