New blog post - viewing server debug info in real time using Websockets

I’ve just written a blog post I wanted to share:

http://www.bonnydoonmedia.com/index.cfm/blog/real-time-server-debug-info-using-nodejs-jquery-websockets-and-logbox/

I have been working on RIAs for the last several years and have found debugging the server-side to be quite tedious. I finally decided to make a way to see my logging info from the server in real time in the browser while I am working on the code. My app is using ColdBox, so I added a new WebSocketAppender to LogBox, added a tiny web chat server in NodeJS to relay the messages, and now I can see logging from LogBox in my app while I am working. Details in the post.

Seeing the logging info helps with debugging the web services API and also gives me information on background processes like scheduled tasks that otherwise are difficult to debug.

Very nice!

I’ll give that a try, just started to dabble with NodeJS myself.

Cheers

That’s great. Thanks for that.
