AjpProcessor.service Error processing request java.lang.NullPointerException

I uncommented mod_access_compat and made the Directory changes but am still receiving the same 403 error:

Actually…

You could do this, the other will only work internally for me

<VirtualHost *:80>

<Proxy balancer://cluster>
BalancerMember http://127.0.0.1:8888

#ProxyPreserveHost On
ProxyPass / balancer://cluster/
ProxyPassReverse / balancer://cluster/

I haven’t used that directive before but added it to my configuration and now Apache won’t start and throws this message:

AH00526: Syntax error on line 544 of C:/Apache24/conf/httpd.conf:
ProxyPass|ProxyPassMatch can not have a path when defined in a location.

HTTPS

What does your error logs show?

Apologies for the delay @Terry_Whitney! I was able to get past that error by removing the “/” in the ProxyPass directive but still receive the 403 error. Here’s info from the logs:

Hi,

Did you compile Apache for Windows from source, or did you download the binary from somewhere? If so can you post the link here?

I utilized an already compiled Apache24 for Windows from ApacheLounge: httpd-2.4.52-win64-VS16

Also, I tried http://localhost:8888 and receive this error message in the logs:

::1 - - [12/Jan/2022:15:18:59 -0800] "-" 408 -

I can certainly do another fresh install if that’s the quickest way to resolution. Is there recommended documentation to follow to install Lucee on Windows with Apache?

so I used foo.org in my hostfile as xxx.org trips too many security logs.

I downloaded and installed lucee in c:\lucee
I downloaded and installed apache24 from apacheLounge in c:\apache24

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
# will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used. If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
Define SRVROOT "c:/Apache24"

ServerRoot "${SRVROOT}"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:logs

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

fattahipour, I think I see the problem, and the solution.

In the logs you’ve shared (for the first time), we can see that the http connector is somehow listening on 8889, not the 8888 you’ve been using all this while. And while you’ve shared the server.xml multiple times, in each case you didn’t seem to share the WHOLE file, because we only ever saw a “connector” line for the protocol of AJP, not the the one for a protocol value of http. (Otherwise perhaps this could have solved much earlier in the thread.)

So don’t you have another connector line, with a protocol value like “http”? And if so, can you either change that file to use 8888, or change the apache conf (and any other files that might point to 8888) to be 8889. I think the first option is easier. Then restart lucee or tomcat, whichever you’re using to run Lucee.

Let us know if things change. You may have some new error appear, but it should be a step in the right direction.

@Terry_Whitney: I followed these same steps and copied your httpd file verbatim (except for a different domain). I receive this error message upon attempting to connect:

xx.xx.xx.xxx - - [12/Jan/2022:21:36:10 -0800] "GET /test.cfm HTTP/1.1" 403 199
xx.xx.xx.xxx - - [12/Jan/2022:21:37:10 -0800] "-" 408 -

I’ve attached both my entire httpd and server files below. Thank you!!

HTTPD

Listen 80

thanks for the catch … I was hopeful this would do the trick but received this error message. I did try this before reinstalling Apache and Lucee. I’ve posted the httpd and server files if you have any ideas?

[Wed Jan 12 21:14:53.633335 2022] [authz_core:error] [pid 1640:tid 992] [client 54.68.32.252:49609] AH01630: client denied by server configuration: proxy:http://127.0.0.1:8888/test.cfm

I put foo.com as an entry to my localhost file and I am able to ping foo.com (it returns my localhost)
The server.xml I used is the vanilla, lucee installable server.xml that is produced by the windows binary download.

In the context of using Apache with Lucee, there is no reason to have tomcat (Lucee) do anything, as you are making apache httpd do all the heavy lifting and leaving Tomcat (Lucee) to do coldfusion.

So clean out everything you have done, start over on a plain, fresh, vanilla install. Do not use even a custom domain and see if you can navigate to localhost/index.cfm. If you receive the lucee welcome screen then that 1st step is complete

Step 2, create a custom Virtual host.config file for your domain. This is only for Apache httpd. You do not need to do anything with Lucee / tomcat

Put your coldfusion files here for “foo.com”
C:/lucee/tomcat/webapps/root/sites-enabled/foo

I did a third clean install and used the default server.xml with the above virtualhost and it worked! THANK YOU!!! :slight_smile:

Still unclear what the root issue was but regardless, I’m very grateful for your assistance! So, what protocol is being leveraged now between Apache and Tomcat to pass CF requests? It doesn’t seem as though mod_cfml or the AJP connector is being leveraged …

@Terry_Whitney … I’m able to browse to .cfm pages, however, it’s not interpreting CF code. For example, the following test file won’t display 1 but displays the actual CF. Is this because mod_cfml isn’t properly configured?

<cfset x = 1>
<cfoutput>#x#</cfoutput>

Also … I can still browse the Lucee Admin and render CFML: http://127.0.0.1:8888/lucee/admin/server.cfm just not http://foo.org/test.cfm

You have something going on with your proxy / virtual host setting

as this tells apache that anything that has the extention cfc, cfml cfm cfchart to send the request to tomcat/lucee

<ifModule mod_proxy.c>
    <proxy *>
    </proxy>
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cf[cm])(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/$1$2
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cfchart)(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/$1$2
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cfml)(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/$1$2

@Terry_Whitney is likely correct, that your proxy module isn’t working correctly. Could you re-check your httpd.conf and look if the needed modules for ajp reverse proxy are present as files and also being loaded?

Re-Search your httpd.conf for mod_proxy for the lines modules/mod_proxy.so
LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so and make sure these are unommented and also look if the files are physically present. Has been a while I did install apache httpd on win. As far I remember, the ajp module was an extension and I’m not 100% sure it needed to be additionally downloaded and added to your modules. If this all doesn’t help, switch the loglevel to another level in order to properly debug whats happenig.

Thanks @andreas and @Terry_Whitney … I was able to finally hack a path forward … lol … not sure if its best practice so buyer beware. :smiley: This blog post helped a lot. Basically, I needed to correct the following:

HTTPD

  • Change proxy * to proxy 8009
  • Comment out the reverse proxy directive
  • Add the context root to the proxy directives to route traffic correctly
  • Load the following modules: mod_proxy.so, proxy_ajp_module, mod_proxy_ajp.so, mod_proxy_connect.so, mod_proxy_http.so
<VirtualHost *:80>
  ServerName foo.org
  DocumentRoot /lucee/tomcat/webapps/[website-1]/
  <Directory /lucee/tomcat/webapps/[website-1]/>
	  DirectoryIndex index.cfm
	  AllowOverride All
      Require all granted
  </Directory>
<IfModule mod_proxy.c>
    <proxy 8009>
		Require ip 127.0.0.1
    </proxy>
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cf[cm])(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/[website-1]/$1$2
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cfchart)(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/[website-1]/$1$2
    ProxyPassMatch ^/(.+\.cfml)(/.*)?$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/[website-1]/$1$2
    # optional mappings
    #ProxyPassMatch ^/flex2gateway/(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/flex2gateway/$1
    #ProxyPassMatch ^/messagebroker/(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/messagebroker/$1
    #ProxyPassMatch ^/flashservices/gateway(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/flashservices/gateway$1
    #ProxyPassMatch ^/openamf/gateway/(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/openamf/gateway/$1
    #ProxyPassMatch ^/rest/(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8888/rest/$1
    #ProxyPassReverse / http://127.0.0.1:8888/
</ifmodule>

</virtualhost>
LoadModule modcfml_module modules/mod_cfml.so
CFMLHandlers ".cfm .cfc .cfml"
  • In server.xml, I needed to define the context path but everything else stayed default:
<Context path="" docBase="/[website-1]/" />

@fattahipour the spam filter caught about 5 of your messages. I restored them and increased your trust level. Sorry if there’s duplicate messages now, I’m on my phone all I couldn’t quite see what they all were.
